Hans,

How are you sorry I been out of the office for a few days.

I try and answer your questions while explaining about the Irish context. Our economy is growing but there are problems with exploitation of migrant workers on the ground. It is only a matter of time before we see wages being driven down. We are already seen a fall in industrial wages please below link to a press release.

While in construction officially wages have said the same there are wide scale abuses by construction companies. In Ireland the Government have brought in competition laws this means that for a public contract for example the government must take the cheapest option. This has led to several high profile cases of exploitation.

See below link to David Begg’s our General Secretary’s opening statement in the Social Partnership talks. Not only do we need proper enforcement of laws, we need all workers in Ireland to be on Irish Rates of pay.

There is a worry as well about the services directive and employment agencies see below link.

If the right wing are always comparing Ireland to Sweden and sitting Ireland as good example they are probably saying the following.

That Ireland has a low tax economy and high wage economy that works! We do not, we have a hospital service that is falling to pieces because of lack investment http://www.rte.ie/news/2006/0414/health.html and that is before we talk about the under funding of Education and Public Transport.
In the last local elections in Ireland the two ruling parties Fine Fail and the Progressive Democrats received a back lash in the local election because Irish people were sick of hearing that we are living in the best economy in Europe but can not afford to buy homes, must commute up to four hours a day because they can afford a house near where they work. The high cost of child care means that it is not unusually for one of two parents working just to pay for a child minder.
You must remember that according to the UN Ireland has the second largest gap between rich and poor and the largest in the EU, what neo- liberals need to remember its not just an economy that we are building it is a society that we are building.

I hope this answers your question if have any further questions please let me know.
